Pfft. Firefox is just Mozilla, stripped down and with useful things like a complete preferences dialog cut out. Funny thing is it really isn't any faster.  |

I don't think it's supposed to be faster in terms of how long it takes Page X to load. The main goal was to reduce the overall footprint, both on disk and in memory. By removing all the integrated components, the browser can have only the components it needs to use in memory (eg. no use having the mail client loaded and ready for mailto: links if you only use webmail, etc). So, it's minutely faster because there is less stuff in memory to go through, but that is more a product of the overall system being faster because of reduced memory usage.
So, short Version: Firefox = Mozilla - bloat.

I've seen more than a few Posts on the Mozillazine support Boards claiming that the 'bloated' suite is more stable than the 'lean' Firefox. And as others have already noticed, it's not really any faster at browsing. Its only advantage seems to be that it loads a little bit faster.

Browsing is never going to be fast on my 26k connection.  The program is fast and and responsive though.

Unfortunately for me, sometimes Firefox crashes and I lose all my bookmarks and custom settings. It just happened again today, which is the third time in 4 months since I've been using Firefox. 
I think now I'll have to export and backup my settings to some other folder just in case it happens again. [img]/threads/images/Graemlins/Cold.gif[/img] |
