A variant on the suicide fleet theme is to send a single obsolete/expendable ship through a warp point ahead of the main fleet to detect a minefield or ambush (as befell the Icarans in the Mestra[?] system). Presumably the crew of such an [ahem] "elite scout" would be either very brave or very naughty boys and girls; either option might be the basis for a good chapter. |
