Default Banefire Question?

Is there a central theme to what exactly banefire is? I ask because I had the following happen to me:

I was fighting Marignon, and summoned Anthrax to my aid. Now, Anthrax has a banefire shield (15 ap, ouch!) and banefire strike for a weapon. Marignon sent Summer Lions against me. Now, I find it quite odd that Anthrax didn't inflict any damage with his (its?) banefire strike, I assume because the lions are immune to fire, but they died to his banefire shield. Eh? I haven't tried the spell banfire against fire immune critters, so I don't know how that works. Oh, and Anthrax also had Fire Shield up, if that makes any difference.

Anybody have insights?

Should be able to cause damage, perhas he didn't hit or something? The spell banefire can certainly damage anything.

Does the banefire strike count as a magic weapon? Summer lions are ethereal IIRC, so maybe he was just missing.

Yes, it is a magic weapon, and yes, Anthrax did hit his targets, he just caused no damage. I was sitting right next to Kaljamaha watching it happen, we were playing a hotseat co-op game at my place, and this phenomenon was systematic over several battles, summer lions and other fire immune units simply did not take any damage from the Banefire Strike, but they got zapped by the banefire shield.

Anthrax is the only unit armed with Banefire strike, and if banefire differs from normal fire attacks in ways other than having the additional decay effect, it is possibly bugged so that the game thinks his normal attack is fire when it should not be.

I quess his banefire attack is just labeled as normal fire, and banefire shield is general damage (and as such unresistable). I haven't tested him myself, so I cannot be sure, but that is an explanation...

Sounds likely. The banefire strike is area-1, isn't it, so I would assume it would always hit every target in the square. It could roll zero damage though - how many turns did this occur?

Quite a few battles, four I'd say. The phenomenon repeated itself in each battle, and they Lasted for a while primarily because Anthrax couldn't hurt the damn kitties. Until I gave him the pain sickle .

Heh! Ok. Did the banefire strike hurt anything that wasn't fire-resistant?

Killed them stone dead. Anthrax carved up armies numbering into the hundreds by his lonesome, but couldn't touch summer lions and the odd fire snake with the banefire strike.
