An unbelievable load of #@%$
Can I just say that that battle was the biggest load of bullS@#$ I have ever seen in this game.
I am truly demoralised and ashamed.
And to think I was trying to be nice and conservative, not overconfident or brash, HAH.
I know its all a learning experience but when your playing with someone elses baby it stings even more, I'm sorry Deccan.
I am off to cry.
(Deep breath....Deep breath)

Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Yeah, sorry about that, Steerpike.
I had summoned a bunch of mech men just to inflict as much damage upon your army as I could before I lost. I expected to retreat most or all of my mages, which I did (lost only 2). But, just in case, I also took the castle behind you since you had only one avenue of retreat. I did that for the longshot odds in case I might win the battle or at least cause some retreats from your side.
Of course, I never expected to actually win the battle. And I truly didn't win. Killed only 24 guys while I lost nearly everything of my own. But it took the worms like 40 turns to get past the mech men through the narrow passage way to the castle interior. And in a few more turns after that, the victorius army turned and ran just when they had it won. I have heard many complaints about the 50 turn battle limit and I can see firsthand why it is an abysimally bad thing indeed. Flying is very important in a castle siege for this reason.
Perhaps the oddest thing of all is that Steerpike built that castle as Jontunheim. Had it been one of my Abysian paper towers, the tomb worms would have overrun my meager army so quick it would not have mattered about the 50 turn thing.
Oh well, live and learn, I suppose. 190 tomb worms and 10 fully-equipped bane lords just went poof because of the odd battle mechanics in the game.
I have had this happen to me before so I now make DARN sure I always have some sure retreat paths from any major fight.
I suppose I no longer have to spring my special trap that I had planned against that army. I will always wonder how it would have worked. Maybe I can entice Aku onto land so I can try it against him instead...

I was like wtf when I saw that battle and it sucks so badly to lose a major army to routing when you had won the battle.
About me going on land we shall see. I like the safety of the water especially since it costs you so much when you attack me in my natural habitat.
Ctis lost an army but that is just a setback and Marignon will take some time for you to conquer. You would need to take over both their empires to possibly win this game and that goal is still a long way from becoming a reality.

Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Don't worry about it Steerpike. I had something broadly similar happen to me in Argitoth's MP game just a couple of games ago.
I was playing AE Ermor and was storming Man's capital. I had 500+ Ermorian undead, with a storm grounding all fliers, and the undead took a LONG time getting past the front gate. They managed to kill all of Man's defenders except his pretender, reach the pretender and get in a couple of hits in, and then 50 turns are up, all the commanders run away, and the mindless undead, left leaderless, simply dissolved.
Of course, in that game I came back the very next turn, since my commanders survived, and the loss was only freespawn, but it still sucked.

I have that too (actually my father-in-law got it for my son, who is only 7, so that makes it mine), but haven't tried it yet. Actually, my wife got me Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War which is another RTS game that I can't get enough of. I can't quit playing it. I have never played a RTS as madly as this (pulled me away from Rome: Total War).

I haven't Dawn of War but it looks very good and one of my friends has it as well and loves it .
From what he tells it is a bit similiar to BfME , almost no resource gathering , upgrades for squads etc. .
Once it is budget Version i will buy warhammer dawn of war as well .
Atm Hoi 2 is surely the next game i will buy .
I like BfME really so far for me it is a worthy successor to the now slowly ageing starcraft .
Starcraft is imo still though the best RTS . It was far ahead its time when it came out like 5 years ago .
Did you ever play Starcraft Krool ?

Unfortunately untrue . At the current stage of the game every nation could afford at least 2-3 staff of storms .
And during a storm expect AQs no good fliers are available .
Storm demons would have done nothing to your mech men and nothing to your lightning immune SCs/Key Mages .
Spring hawks are pathetic .
Especially a good castle with a narrow gateway like a hill fort can so be really hard to take unless you can use 3 AQs for that job .
Now you + Ctis are probably about equal with losses cause Ctis lost estimated roughly stuff worth about 500 gems in that fight .
I would estimate that this is a 5-10 turn income of Ctis .

Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Vanheim I was like wtf when I saw that one mage attack Abysia. Then I see the turn and you have an army there. For future reference and to anyone else that does not know...magical movement takes place before regular movement. That is why your army and your mage(I assume you did cloud trapeze) did not arrive at the same time and your mage fought alone.
Oh Ctis and Abysia that was a pretty damaging battle the two of you inflicted on each other this round. It wasnt huge armies but your two raid armies took equal damage.
