Two things:

-I thought you were about to eliminate the EEE, or was that in another game? (see your sig)

-Do NOT take a colony ship, as a new colony will take a long time to develop, but instead take a troop ship loaded to the brim with your empire's finest. Take one of their colonies and enjoy the benefits of a fully developed world right in the middle of enemy territory.

LOL My sig came before I had the game everything I had read made the Eee sound like the toughest enemy. And it's actually a misquote from the original BSG Imperious Leader is the name of the Cylon ruler in the opening show he gives the order for the attack that destroys the colonies "The final anilation of the life form known as man let the attack begin"

DO hijack a colony ship if it has a colony tech you don't have. Then analyze it. Now you have double your available planets without adding a single system!

In my early games I used to design colony ships without engines. I once designed a dreadnought, a ship that would save my empire, and in order fund this endevor I would scrap some of my ships each turn while my uber-noughts were being built. Imagine my surprise when 50 of my uber-noughts went on line and I scapped the rest of my fleet just to find out that all of my new ships had no engines and would not move. Retrofit time.
