Re: New Shrapnel game
It should be noted that Wesnoth isn't finished yet. That doesn't mean it isn't playable - it's very playable, and there are a lot of user-made campaigns etc. But it is (right now) version 0.8.11, with a list of changes that have to be made before 1.0
Website is www.wesnoth.org if you want to check it out. It's a lot of fun.

Those guys are real perfectionists, what they call 0.8 would be labelled 3.4 by most publishers
I run Wesnoth stable and fine since 8.5, and there's already a bunch of campaigns both official and user-made.

Re: New Shrapnel game
I have to say that Tiny Hero's graphics are unappealing to me. I tend to ignore graphics in favor of game play, but when something looks really amateurish, I am reminded of the hundreds of shareware games that I played only once.
Is it multiplayer online only? If so, it's in a tough niche.

Advanced game searching tactics
I've tryed a Wesnoth. Is a very good game.
So i've discovered a very advanced method to find very good new (and unknown) games, preferably free.
Take a very good game (say Dom2) with a large fan base and forums.
Take another (say Wesnoth).
make a ctrross-searcgh of one in the forum of the other (for both).
You'll detect the "what are you playing now?" threads written by people liking games you like that are like gold veins for excellent free games.

Re: New Shrapnel game
I've been playing Wesnoth a lot since I saw it mentioned on this thread. I'm having a problem with the balance of the initial campaign, Heir to the Throne, on Heroic Difficulty. The first scenario seems like a random coin-toss -- if enough orcs happen to wander into your exit path, you can't win no matter how carefully you play, but if there is a path through them then you can win. The second scenario seems way too easy. I tried passing all 9 of my turns one time, and I *almost* won anyway, even though I didn't do anything. The third scenario I've never won yet, and since the first two seemed so... sloppily balanced, I'm not entirely sure it is possible to win the 3rd scenario on heroic mode.
Speaking of which, maybe I'll go try again...

Re: New Shrapnel game
By 'Heroic' do you mean the 'Hero' (middle) level?
I played through that entire campaign on that difficulty setting, and it seemed quite well balanced to me.
