You want to build yourself a 20 light-year diameter particle accelerator (or I suppose you could just use the one nature has kindly provided...)

wouldn't it be an odd thing, to see proof-positive of advanced alien life (sphereworlds, quasars that blinked in morse code, whatever) but being only able to observe from afar, and not contact?
