Laparoscopy - examination or treatment of the interior of the abdomen by means of a laparoscope.
The above is a medical dictionary definition. Nowadays this procedure can be used to remove the appendix, gallbladder or uterus through only three small (2 cm) holes in the abdomen instead of having to make a larger incision. This reduces recovery time and scarring.
