To Wait, or Not to Wait?
So, SE:V is in the works, and I'm working on an SE:IV mod (that, admittedly, is more complex than I intended and is nowhere near done). So, I find myself wondering...should I wait to snag SE:V first, or should I press on and attempt to finish it as quickly as humanly possible?
I'm leaning toward the wait option, but still working through it anyway. There will probably be at lesat some similarities, of course, and SE:IV has some limitations and some quirks that bother me.
But, really...what do you kids think?

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
Me personally will always leave things till later if they don't have to be done today. I started planning Startrek Mirror shipsets for SE4 then decided I couldn't be bothered if SE5 is relatively soon, and I could leave all that work for SE5.

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
It's a good few months till SEV isn't it? Mind you that's a good few months of summer where there are better things to be doing in the sunshine.

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
It depends on the size of the mod I guess, but I'd go for it now as you can always adapt it after for SE:V.

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
Even if SE V is released on time, it will probably need months if not years of patching to reach a semi-polished state similar to SE IV now.

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
You can always use the work you do now for the mod as ground work for the SEV mod...If I remember from the posts of the script for SEV, it is basically like SEIV, with a extra lines for certain elements...like ammo...for weapons and such...so you will have alot of work pre-done before SEV even comes out...

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
SEV's projected release date is somewhere around Christmas I believe. So, not all months are going to be so sunny. And who knows, perhaps sunshine will be limited this summer?
I suggest, go on with it. Indeed, if SEV turns out to be really buggy at first I think people will play SEIV for some time. Btw, it's great practice for when the game comes out. You'd already have the basic skills and, most importantly, you know how to make your mod playable. You would know how to recognize - and compensate for - grossly imbalancing things.
(However, on the other hand, you might want to create some pretty imbalancing occurences. I mean, look at my Cultures & Demeanors Mod (tucked away somewhere in some faraway page) with its Megalomaniacs and Genocidal Megalomaniacs, with massive bonuses in combat (reaching up to 100%!!!!! for the Genocidal Megalomaniacs I believe) and compare those with the Transcendi and the Pacifists, who both have terribly weak combat. Pacifists have a -80% combat modifier!!!)

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
If it were me, I would continue to work on the mod for SEIV. SE V should not play into your plans at all as SEIV is still a very good stand alone game in its own right and will continue to be so for a very long time. In fact I will wager $10.00 that SEIV will continue to be a crowed favorite long after the release of SE V.

Re: To Wait, or Not to Wait?
After the release of SE IV I still continued to play more SE III than the new game for almost a year, because I found that SE IV had too many bugs. I believe the situation will be quite similar for SE V, probably even more because the complexity of SE V will be greater and therefore a higher chance of bugs.
