I can confirm that indys are set to 6.

Only time I've ever seen empty provinces when the indys were set to non-zero was on a map where there were specified indy provs, like Sundering.

Had it happen in MP games on maps including Aran and Urgaia, with indies between 6 and 9. I remember the first time I saw it happen, I sent a unit in very cautiously, thinking that I simply wasn't being told what was there.

I hate to restart, but I don't want anybody to have a sucky time just because he made a big & stupid mistake designing his pretender. We just started the game. So, we could restart pretty easy without much fuss.
