IE. move to the edge of the starsystem, and warp in whichever direction you feel like. It may take a few turns to reach your destination if it is far away or you have a slow ship.

It basically requires 100 warppoints per starsystem to do it properly

100 per system?! What a workload for you! Sounds like an interesting idea though. If you make it through such a gruelling challenge, I look forward to playing around with it. (Actually, B5 seemed to use a limited jumppoint system like the current SE4, but what you describe would be great for a Trek universe.)

Actually, 24 per system (12 in, 12 out), plus 180 hyperspace interconnections.

The hyperspace looks just like B5 hyperspace (using the red nebula pic), but acts just like Trek or Starwars, in the fact that Starships can go to FTL once they reach a good distance from the gravity well (edge of system)

For all three, the point being that ships can take any route they choose to get where they are going, and move around blockades or chokepoint systems.

No player can lay siege to hyperspace, since the random movement ability will cause their ships & mines to rapidly drift away from warppoints. Eventually they will run out of fuel. Even with a quantum reactor, the ships will be scattered by the random movement, and can be attacked individually.
Mines in hyperspace would be really scary, though, since they would change position every turn.
(The previous all assumes that the "system movement - random" ability works )

JimG,

Check out Hadrian Aventine's site and look for "Map of the Week". This dude has an awesome site.
http://www.spaceempires.org/

He has about a dozen to pick from. Until the map editor becomes easier to use, we are at the mercy of the SEIV junkies that live in this cyberworld with their fingers fused to their keyBoards. They are easy to identify. Look for "corporal" or "general" under their name on the left of the screen. They sacrifice long hours, at the expense of genuine human relationships, to produce and enhance the multiverse you and I know as SEIV. Thank them profusely.

"Henceforth I spread confident wings to space
I fear no barrier of crystal or glass;
I cleave the heavens and soar to the infinite.
And while I rise from my own globe to others
And penetrate even further through the eternal field,
That which others saw from afar, I leave far behind me."
