Inigma try the "team mode".
Even after the MEE event the different AI empires will still fight between each other. That will be different if you select the team mode in the game setup.
And yes, I have lost against the AI this way.

Yes, I actually lost to the stock AI twice, once in PBEM where they had a high bonus, and another time when the AI started very near my homeworld and attacked right away. If they start out close to you and they have a bonus, they can be overpowering. If you have time to get ahead of them on colonization in the unmodded game, that can give you more production and research than their bonus can compensate for.

I lost to the AI in my mod once. I tried to threaten one of them and it sort of backfired..only time I've EVER seen the AI respond to the "tone" setting of messages.

Well I've oddly enough never been able to finish a long game of SEIV because things kept getting in the way like comp crashes or things getting fowled up in the data files.

I did lose to the AI once when my main star went Nova early in game and all I had was a few scattered colonies and warships, and the two AI powers on either side of me invaded and slaughtered my defence fleets and colonies, But it took them three years and I made them pay in blood and steel for every inch of space! But in the end even my superior ship sizes (I had battleships they had battlecruisers) was not enough and even with a two to one kill rate and me slaughtering entire fleets they still overwhelmed me.

The Cue Cappa did the main damage because they actually stole two of my battleships with their psychic abilities and defeated one of two western fleets, my other western fleet had three battleships and I think a mix of 10 cruisers, BCs and destroyers. And against a Cue fleet reinforced by my own battleships it was the end of them a year later.

The Xiati only really served to whittle away my defenses in the east with several warp point battles that eventually led to the destruction of my eastern frontier fleets.

Ah yes, I remember fighting the Cue Cappa long ago when I still played single player. It was quite fun, going into battle outnumbered 5 to 1 and coming out with 6 times as many ships as I started with.

Yeah it's funny after fighting them, even in games where there are no psychic races I have it engraved on my soul to BUILD IN MASTER COMPUTERS lol, I still have crew because I've read about what happens to all MC fleets when someone employs virus warfare.

Someone once joked that it was much like what happened to the Colonial fleet in the NeoBSG mini-series lol

I'm getting a run for my money in a current game against 5 AIs:

Stock SEIV gold + TDM Modpack
2000 points
I took no racial tech areas (crystalline, religious, etc.)
Team play
Expensive tech
Low AI bonus
No mine tech
AIs are 5 of the top 6 from AI Deathmatch 3
My Intel is at minimum
No Ruins
Strategic combat
I attempt no diplomacy beyond "Surrender, creeps!"

It takes some gymnastics, but I think it's possible to get a good game against the AIs.

I lost to the AI a lot when learning to play. If I ran into the Terrans or Sergetti within 10 or 15 turns of start, on a stock Gold game, I lost.

I have never beat the AI does that count as loosing?

..and I have never won against 'real players' either, does that count as loosing?

I can win if I play with no computer players or neutral players. At the start of those games it says "You Win, do you want to continue?" hmmm, does that count as a win?

Yes I AM that bad.

Cheers!
