Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
It hopefully means more room for niche indies like Malfador/Shrapnel. The mass-market will move to on-line multiplayer, leaving the higher quality niche makers to do local-PC games.

My sentiments exactly. Massivly popular games tend toward rather formulaic games of repetitive motions and manual dexterity... nothing really to think about. I'm all for hard-thining games of heavy complexity..

(oh, and great use of the word, formulaic, in a sentence!)

Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
Well, I prefer PC games to console games because I will always have a PC because of the need to do other things on it like work. So it's nice to be able to play games on it as well. Then I won't have to have other hardware like an X-Box or a Playstation II.

Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
I'll go along with the: "so what?" chorus.
Most of the mass-market games I'm simply not interested in. Therefore, if that segment of the market dies..I don't care. I won't be buying Deer Hunter XXIV, so why do I care if that company goes away?
PC gaming isn't going away. PC gaming as a major retail force might.
EDIT: Also, an important detail: you won't see publishers like Shrapnel on consoles. Because console makers control what can be published on their consoles, and therefore can veto any game..

Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
I also think console games miss the biggest aspect of computer games - which is their "modability".

Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
Console games are just different from PC games, the difference is too big for me to bridge, so I wont be playing console games anytime soon.

Re: Microsoft Says PC Games Are Doomed!
These things run in cycles. Popularity will rise, then fall, then rise again. As the cycle sits now, console games are popular, computer games less popular. Things will reach a low for PC games, companies will go backrupt, less crap will be made. Some innovative developers will survive, and continue to make games, and rake in the profits from making good games that will be bought by the hardcore PC gamers who will never go to the console (myself included). Then, seeing the success of the developers that survived, more companies will be created, and create more and more PC games. A lot will be crap, but lots will be made, and people will say PC gaming has risen from the ashes. But really, it'll just be a natural cycle. Console games will have their day, then inevitably fall in popularity for a while. It's the way an industry such as gaming functions.

X3: Reunion, sequel to X2 will be shipping soon, in the space sim genre. Looks very interesting!
