I was actually talking about the forum as a living object, not someone starting the padding just for fun. You need to be more careful Fyron, you might hurt its feelings.

Post counts are by no means necessary for forum sustainability. It is posting that matters, not counting the posts.

You know, Fyron, must you keep arguing the fact of the validity of the living fourm? Htere really is no reason to argue the point...unless... of course... you are the physical entity of the forum, carrying out it's whims and wishes!!! That is why you must be arguing back, to keep the fresh posts coming to feed the forum!

I always felt it was the content of the posts. For example, some people get high post counts by 'debating' in the form of endlessly restating their viewpoint. In my opion that is slightly better than inane posts, but still a boring read.

And if you disagree, go and and post it - I'll just reply with the same thing, slightly rephrased

I post padded a time or two as a newbie trying to find out at what levels the ranks change. The result of that was a thread very much like this one. There's a list of those values somewhere. The novelty of it wore off long ago.
