Re: Good Games For X-Mas
If you get X3: The Threat, be sure you patch it up. I bought it as soon as it was released (UK DVD version, not the damn US/Canadian 6 CD release...) and although I didn't have any problems with it, some people were having CTD's all the time and other assorted problems. However, with the current patches applied, it runs great for me and most other people, but make sure you have a system that can run it! It's a bit of a resource hog

Download the Nosral Confederacy (a shipset based upon the Phong) and the Tyrellian Imperium, an organic looking shipset I created! (The Nosral are the better of the two )

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
Space Rangers 2!!
2D turn based space combat/trading with optional 3D RTS, arcade and old school text adventures-ish. In the UK and US (I think) it's just sold as Space Rangers and comes on a DVD with the original. It's a Russian game that's taken a load of ideas and just stirred them all in together. It's consumed my spare time for about 3 weeks now.
Seems to be off most people's radar unfortunately. I urge you to give it a try and don't give up at the start if it seems too hard.

X3: Reunion I too have it. Had a couple of minor issues but were my PC's "fault" not the game. It IS a resource hog. Decent game but it does take a while (days, weeks....) to meet whatever goals you set. I am in a non-plot setup and am slowly establishing a trade empire.
Any of the Combat Mission games are a good bet.

Master of Magic is worth buying - E-bay sometimes has it.

Re: Good Games For X-Mas
Is there a tutorial for X3: Reunion, or do I just have to figure the game out as it goes? I have it and I love th graphics but I can't figure out what to do.

Giskard has some on his web site:
http://www.respawn.co.uk/content/category/3/4/67/
otherwise the Egosoft X universe forum at the following thread has some listed:

Unfortunately there is no true tutorial though you can do the sim mode. That is a good way to learn how to set up factories and complexes.
