Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender

It has been brought to my attention that Mictlan is using an illegal pretender: The Smoking Mirror. We agreed in the thread (on page 2-3 for me) that shape-changing pretenders were not acceptable because they were a little too tough and only available to a handful of nations.
In retrospect, I realize that I did not officially post this decision in the top post of the thread. So I can see how it could have been overlooked. But still it does give Mict's pretender a slight advantage over others in the game.

The rules said "1) All pretenders were once human servants of the Old Ones and therefore must be mortal humans (tho they can be mounted). "
My pretender is a human mortal as specified by this rule. Of course I wasn't aware of the discussion saying otherwise. I think it's common that game rules are posted and updated in the first post.
Anyway, How do you guys wish to proceed? I am not interested in having "unfair" advantage. Since the game is early I don't mind resigning.

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender
ehh, it was a mutual error. I don't mind; resignation is surely too drastic.

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender
I figure if someone can have the Freak Lord, some shapeshifting guy shouldn't be that different. Don't resign! This is a fun game. I'm a neighbor and don't see any problem...

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender
Eh, Freak Lord is explicitly a human pretender, usually regarded as being in the "trash" category : 1 dominion (*), 10 point magic paths, HPs comparable to all the other humans. Smoking Mirror : 20 point paths, 2 starting dominion, shapeshifting into a form that keeps all its magic but gets 41 base HPs, 2-3 times as many as all the other human pretenders.
That said, I don't see too much of a problem with it - not like when I ran into a Shedu in a supposed human-pretender only game.
* : Base game, all the humans had dominions of 1; Conceptual Balance mod has tweaked that a bit over time, as the archmage at one point had 2, as does Pythium's Divine Emperor.

Actually, the divine emperor had 2 base game, he now has 3.

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender
btw ironhawk, did you like what I did with my artifact wardens? I figure a bow of accuracy makes them worthwhile.
I'll sell bows of accuracy to anyone else who wants them, for 10 astral pearls and 50 gold or 5 air gems and 50 gold.

Re: Mictlan\'s Pretender
This is beside the point but come to thing of it, the rational that pretenders with some advantage that are only available for some of the nations should be disqualified might apply to some more human pretenders.
For example the alchemist. Alchemy by itself is a clear advantage and he's only available to a few nations.
I guess it has to do with wether the idea behind having human pretenders is thematic or for balancing. Because for perfect balancing we might as well have all taken the same pretender. but that's not fun imo.
The game is fun and for sure I'd like to continue playing. I take it that this advantage isn't considered as a problem by fellow players, so I'll happily continue
