as much as i would like to say that i was bluffed and have now learned from my experience, thats not true. I had my arse knocked off and handed to me. he probably had level 1 in mines, 4 in armor, and 1 in planet and plague bombs, because you dont have time to research much else AND build delivery systems for them.
the ships went right past my wormhole defenses, because i could not see them and did not have mines. in a straight-up fight, my fleet could probably have cleaned his clock. but i could not sweep the mines on the other side of his warp point, and i was nowhere near having sensors to detect his ships. I bet they were even running out of supply when i gave it up, but even so, i could not have stopped a second wave.
I even tried to brute-force my way thru his minefield by smashing non-essential ships into it, but to no avail. for all i know, i was one mine away from getting a breech, but even if i had made it in, he could have built more mines in orbit of his planets before i got there.
i could not even pull my fleet back fast enough to defend the Last of my planets, and by the time i could react I did not have enough research facilities left to get mines of my own.
of course, that was one of the first human-v-human games I played, aside from a few against some local friends. I didnt even realize the value of cloaking because i never needed it against the AI.

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
PUKE:
I agree with most of your description about the game and your situation, and also, I’m glad to know that now you consider that surrender was not the right decision.
When you surrendered to the other guy that also I was killing, I became mad and left the game, because considered that you was in a better position than him, and also, because think that surrender to an ally is not fair with the others players (I don’t want to start a flame here: I know that other people can think different than me, OK?).
I don’t keep hard feelings, but, will never play again human vs human games without the surrender option dissabled….
MUDSHARK:
Yes BOC is a VERY funny game (although I feel that to win this game, the players need more political skills and luck, than skills to play SEIV).

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
man, if i was better off than him, i would hate to see how he was doing. i have come to agree with you about surrender, it sort of sucks. you cant really disable allied surrender though, without disabling the ability to give gifts and trades. the only way to really do it is to play on the honor system.

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
Just so we don't get off-topic too much. I added my own miserable record and we now have our first (unofficial and beta) Hall of Fame with the a total of two entries .
rank / player / games played / games won / score
1. Puke 3 / 2 / ?
2. Rollo 5 / 1 / 6
Puke, do you remember how many players were in the games that you won? And did you win those games by yourself or as part of an alliance? So we can figure out your score.
As of now I would like everybody who is interested just to submit their (unconfirmed) record and figure out their score (based on the number of players, see my original post).
If this gets popular enough we can go with the idea from my original post where game hosts send in the results of games (even old ones). If we get enough results from game hosts, we can make new (confirmed) entries. To be on the safe side, I would like game hosts to send results only, if all (previous) players have agreed that their record can be posted.

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
actually, if you count the PBM game where M.B. cleaned my clock, im 2-for-4 for games 'played with the shrapnel Boards / PBW community'
i dont know quite how were defining which games count. im also not quite sure what 'score' is supposed to mean.

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
Ah, now I'm sorely tempted to brag about past wins, but also afraid that it would mean everybody starts ganging up on on me...
Ah what the hell, it's late and I feel like a bit of shameless self-agrandization (sp?)
Let's see...my first PBW game was called Letharg's, 10 humans, which I won after 80 turns or so.
I then won the Newbie I and II games that were hosted by Phoenix. (4 humans in each)
I then lost in a quick testgame of an Ancient galaxy that Rollo set up.
Then I hosted my first game, Spiralus, 8 humans I think, which I won resoundingly, partly because of luck with starting position. This is the game in which I gave Phoenix a trauma by destroying his fleet because he was just retrofiiting all his shields
I got more creative then, and hosted two more games, Isobreak and Diplowar 1 (both with 8 humans on custom maps). The first one was terminated half way through because we found out one player was cheating and several people left. I won the other one.
I also participated in Puke's Junkyard I, and ended in a shamefull 12th position.
I'm currently still in Dark Wars by Dracus (man that game has been running for months) where I am in 2nd place (7 humans left) and just started the decisive war against number 1 (the Abercrombie race from Testos). Finally, I just started hosting what will probably by my Last PBW game for the next few months, Diplowar II.
So counting the finished games, that puts me at...5 wins, 2 losses, one undecided.
Now please don't all come gunning for me :-)

Re: PBW Hall of Fame
Hey, we have a new entry (and even at first place) .
rank / player / games played / games won / score
1. Dragonlord 7 / 5 / 34
2. Puke 3 / 2 / ?
3. Rollo 5 / 1 / 6
DL, I am assuming you won all those games as the only winner, not a shared victory, right?
Puke, to figure out the score here is what I proposed in my first post:
" ... For each human player in the game one point is awarded to the winner. If it is a shared victory the points are split evenly among the members of the winning alliance (with the stronger players getting one point more, if points cannot be split evenly). For example: if 11 players joined and 3 people won together the first two would get 4 points and the 3rd would get 3 points... "
