This is a good idea but does not quite go far enough. They could just refuse to eat the pork. There is a precedent for what you are suggesting, though.

They had a problem with Muslim 'mokers' (from which the English term 'amok' comes, I am told) when the Philippines were... 'acquired' from Spain. And there is a signifgant Muslim minority in the southern islands. Some of these guys would work themselves into a berserk frenzy and could not be stopped by the tactics that would work against your average fighter. The 'sledgehammer' .45 was introduced at this time as one way to cope with the frenzied 'mokers' since it hit them hard enough to actually knock them down. The way they finally convinced the Muslim extremists in the southern Philippines to stop resisting was to use their religious zeal against them. They would capture them alive (not easy but possible) and wrap them in the skin of a freshly killed pig -- then hang them up in a public square somewhere to die of exposure, thirst, and starvation. Since any contact with pigs was horribly polluting, and required all sorts of religious purification, it was a sure ticket to the Muslim hell to die in this state. As more and more 'mokers' were hung up in pigskins this idea of becoming a 'moker' became less and less appealing.

Maybe we should do something similar with Usama if we can get him alive. Wrap him in a pigskin and hang him up in a public square somewhere...

Y'know, not to be a party pooper--I do understand where y'all are coming from--but there's this little thing called the Geneva Convention. Not to mention that doing this sort of thing would make us no better than they are.

No flames. It's good to keep things in perspective. However, the Afghans are not signators of the Geneva Convention. They torture their prisoners, skin them alive, and when they get bored they just cut their throats. War is not about being polite, it's about winning. Cruelly and ruthlessly. The sqeamish always lose.

The suggestion is partly facetious, of course. This is a different era than the one where 'mokers' were disgusted out of their rebellion. It would probably only make the other terrorists angrier if you did this, but you can imagine it.

yeah, and while the .45 ACP mentioned below was designed to 'falter a horse in a cavalry charge' everyone in the know realized that was a complete bull**** publicity line. the thing was designed to falter a drug-crazed pacific islander, and it did a rather good job of it.

whats more, there is a pretty good precident for soldiers doing things like this. not only the incident below, but simpler things like coating bullets or hollowpoints in pig fat to be sure and send one to hell. everybody has heard the stories about the North-Vietnamese dipping bullets in faecies to poison the bloodstream of their enemies. i dont know if they were the first ones doing it, but they were probably basing it on someone elses earlier ideas.

The idea is not to torture someone and make them suffer, as appealing as that might seem. the idea is to break down morale and will to fight. thats also the reason for our casualty figures, if anyone here believes that we have not lost any men on the ground due to enemy fire, then you probably also believed our casualty figures coming out of Desert Storm...
