Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
As long as it dosen't allow you two moves or rapid reloading, I think of it as a strategic advantage. Attacking from two fronts (inside & outside) gives you a better chance of firing first.
Other than that, its only cosmetic, right?

Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
I'm fine with the idea of two fronts. It's just odd that it treats each side as a seperate navy.

Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
This is a bug! The game should recognize that your attacking ships are on the same side as your other ships that happen to be present already. Report it to MM. Send in a savegame of the turn before this happened if you have it.

Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
I experienced the same thing, but with a twist: I had one group of ships over an enemy planet, blockading it. I brought in a troop transport to invade. When the transport arrived in the square, I was given the opportunity to start combat, which I did. I ended up with two turns: one turn for my combat ships that had been blockading, another turn for just the troop transport. Very confusing until I read these Posts.

Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
This sounds more "feature" than "bug" to me. However, if it means pressing "end turn" 45 rather than just 30 times to end a combat, I would say we DEFINITELY now a "resolve combat peacefully" button.
This suggestion's been around for yonks. Has anyone actually sent it on to Malfador?

Did your two Groups of ships start in the same location, or was one at the "Attacking the sector I'm in" spot, and the other at the "Attacking from somewhere else" edge?
That would be an awesome feature, allowing two-pronged attacks.
Decloak a Fleet inside the enemy position, and move a second fleet in on the same turn.
You get a better Tactical position, and can wipe out the retreating carriers and transports & support craft when your second fleet comes in from behind.

Re: actical Combat Has Multiple Sides for Same Empire
The "feature" didn't seem so awesome at the time. The group of warships had been over the planet for a couple of turns, and all the planetary defenses were down. All I wanted to do is invade, and it took me twice as many "clicks" to do so. Interestingly, I had similar scenarios in previous 1.41 games (the one I mentioned happened after installing the 1.49 patch), and I don't recall the two turns situation ocurring. I would just as soon do without this "feature" or have it optional. I have already e-mailed MM about this, but unfortunately I didn't have a save game to give him.
