Absolutely a Brainiac fan. I love having the really high tech, plus it can make you a valuable trading partner to races that don't have such great technology. I'd say they're not so good early game when everyone has the same tech level and similar starting equipment, but they quickly start to pull ahead of the others in tech levels - assuming you don't get a Tesco Start, of course
