There are places that specialize in data recovery. Of course, they want money. No idea how much, though.

I had to learn this lesson the hard way as well. Now I routinely backup my data from time to time, and carry a mirror image of my most important files on a USB key.

The HD failure strikes again. Most likely a heat issue took it out. Thats what killed mine a while back. I feel for you man, I wish there was something I could do.
