Crew Insurrection Bug?
In the current game I'm playing of the SEV Demo I just a very weird occurrence. The first race I encountered was the Abbidon, home system only two sectors away. After some 20 ish turns of battle I completely eliminated the Abbidon (never got them to surrender). Now 25 turns later I suddenly get a message that one of my ships has mutinied. When I go to check it is now flying the Abbidon flag. Interestingly enough the ship is in what used to be the Abbidon home system.
Is this a bug, or is the program just selecting the Abbidon flag because it's no longer being used? If it's just flag selection I think the code should be modified to exclude any of the race flags for races that are in the current game for a general crew insurrection.
Also there was no good reason for the crew to revolt. They were fully supplied orbiting a "jubilant" world with six other ships, no current wars and far from the front line. All in all pretty good duty.

It's likely that it was a random event _or_ perhaps the Abbidon underground struck back a blow to your evil empire...
How many Abbidon do you have still listed under their flag on your planets?

Re: Crew Insurrection Bug?
I know of a bug where intelligence spent on a race whens its wiped out goes with the race.
So possibly any intelligence committed against the player stays with the player when a race is wiped out too.
I suppose you could excuse it as die hard fanatics continuing to fight against the evil race who wiped out your people, although its a bug I could live without.
I'd hate to have 8 or 9 dead races continuing to annoy me.
Also I've noticed ships still flying around belonging to long dead empires.

None, Kwok. They are all dead.

Sorry I misinterpreted that you might have captured a few planets or something. This leads to population under the Abbidon flag, of which belong to your empire. In that case, this ship rebellion might actually be somewhat appropriate.

Re: Crew Insurrection Bug?
It is entirely possible that you merely lost contact with them.
If they've got ships and you wipe out their last planet, you lose contact in SE4 too. The ships survive on stored resources plus the minimum point generation settings for a while.

Re: Crew Insurrection Bug?
That is a good idea, but theye are all dead. Even if they had a ship still alive somewhere how would they generate the intel points to cause an insurrection when I have 1/2 of my 22,000 intel points going to defense. But they are definitely all dead.

No, I never captured their planets. I glassed them and re-colonized.

Re: Crew Insurrection Bug?
Assuming it works in a similar way to SEIV...
It could even be that when you wiped out the Abbidon and lost contact they had a coloniser or troop transport out in the sticks somewhere, that subsequently went on to claim them a new planet and re-found their empire.
Of course under those circumstances they should be unable to carry out intel against you because contact was broken and hadn't been re-established. (So it's still a bug).
However I like the idea of conquered species forming resistance groups, and the game handling it as intel attacks against you. In this case though, the game should (a) allow you to mod it out if you like, (b) make any such attacks subject to counter-intel and (c) make it clear in the log message exactly what has happened: "Insurgents loyal to the conquered Abbidon regime have seized control of our ship Almighty Skybastard XV! They must be stopped!"
And of course they needn't be restricted to crew insurrection: Any offensive intel would do: Hell, with a PPP-like project, a conquered race could actually come back into the game! Of course that's all very well for AIs, but I'm not sure how to handle a human player that gets wiped out.

Re: Crew Insurrection Bug?
Twice I've gained ships from empires I hadn't met yet... very early in game, so probably random events.
