Re: renaming leaders
right click on the command in the main window. this brings up commander info. If renaming is on, you can press 'R' to open up a text box to type the new name. Note that the R is capital (lower case won't work) and that if you leave the input box blank and press ok, it keeps the previous name, which is handy if you do it by accident and don't want a commander named Ned the Fire Mage or whatever.

Re: renaming leaders
Actually, lower-case should also work.

How do you ensure renaming is "on"? I tried this on my game and it said something like "renaming is not enabled"?
Thanks in advance.

Re: renaming leaders
When you are creating a new game and get to the menu that allows you to change the money multiple, research difficulty, victory conditions, etc., one of the choices is to allow renaming of commanders. Note that Pretenders, prophets, and hall of fame heroes can not be renamed.

Re: renaming leaders
If you really like renaming and always want it on, you can add the command switch for it to your dom3 icon. And many other things that you might find yourself setting every time you play.
