Penetration enhancers working on items ?
Hello,
I have been wondering if penetration enhancing items/spells (rune smasher, focus, ...) will help with magic items penetrating enemy MR, too, or if it will only help with spells cast by the mage himself ?

Hmm, nobody knows this one ? Any idea how this was handled in Dom2 (likely still the same) ?

Re: Penetration enhancers working on items ?
I think penetration items didn't affect items in DomII.

Re: Penetration enhancers working on items ?
I know penetration items don't (didn't) affect innate abilities that weren't cast (R'lyeh's mindblast, etc), but don't really recall whether it would affect a spell _cast_ via an item. I'd actually suspect it would work with items used via scripting to cast, but wouldn't work if it's something that's fired / swung.

Well, thank you for the answers, it looks like we have to keep guessing unless a dev takes a look at this

Re: Penetration enhancers working on items ?
What item spell are you referring to anyway?
It would be that hard to test if you loaded up someone with the - eye of the void, penetration amulet, rune breaker? (+2 penetration weapon). That would be +5 penetration which would reveal itself relatively quickly if you ran 20 uses of the item with it penetration bonus, and 20 without.

Re: Penetration enhancers working on items ?
I've always wondered about this for items that have spell-like MR-negates effects:
Ethereal crossbow is "MR-negates" & it would be interesting to see the test results Maltrease suggests with with that (though Rune Smasher can't be used).
Then there are effects like Decay from Bane Blade.
I'm drawing a blank right now on items that let you *cast* spells with MR-negates...the unholy-blessing artifact sword, maybe?

The one artifact crown that allows charm, for one. Think there were others.
