Re: Interview with Kristoffer
Interesting interview, I think overall Illwinter is correct, the majority of players want more content, more depth, more of everything.
For such a huge game, its amazing just how balanced Dom3 is, so far I have not come across anything which can be exploited to guarentee you a win with any nation 100% of the time.
Having joined with Dom3, I hope to see it continue to develope, its a excellent game and I hope the developers continue to be stimulated and interested in there creation.

Dominions 4 is a must have!
Well not that I could play with it, since I am stopping computer gaming from the summer...

I strongly agree... I'm definitely ready to support and provide ideas for Dominions_4.

Dominions_4 probably won't arrive until end of 2008 at the very earliest.

Ive seen some posted. Actually, Ive seen quite a few posts along those lines. Whats fun, is that they cant seem to agree on what that ONE ultra-killer strategy is.

Re: Interview with Kristoffer
Now more than ever is the time to support independent publishers and developers like Illwinter and Shrapnel. The major publishers are taking gaming down a terrible path now that it's becoming more and more mainstream. Micro-transactions, in-game advertising, releasing unfinished and buggy products, lack of depth and originality in gameplay. It's becoming a sad, sad industry that cares more about the almighty dollar than delivering quality products to gamers. The Dominions fanbase may be small and rabid, but it's also loyal and knows what it likes. I have no idea what Illwinter has in mind for its next project but as long as it sticks to its core values, I can't see myself not supporting whatever it is they decide to do.

Gee, how strange - nearly every-damn-thing I've read on it is, "Use an uber-blessing to have any prayer against an uber-blessing". The only exception has been, "Use tramplers to take down the mirror images on Van/Helheim".
I've been playing it a fair amount - and probably more MP than you, Gandalf - and I certainly don't consider it to be anything near balanced.
And if a Dom4 is to come out in 2008, I doubt I'll get it unless there's been some patches to Dom3 that do a significant job of addressing the issues.

Re: Interview with Kristoffer
One answer to any overpowered nation is of course diplomacy. This doesn't work all situations but in all 5 of the MP games I am playing, Vanheim isn't winning in any of them.

Re: Interview with Kristoffer
A single-answer-for-a-single-problem still seems to come from only a few people. Even with my rotten memory I can probably name the main three. And the problem usually comes with specific variables such as map size, map settings, type of game, etc. Feel free to join that thread.

Re: Interview with Kristoffer
I'm not sure I would want the game to be balanced.
To quote Kristoffer
"When we first came across PbEM games we were annoyed that sooner or later every nation/faction was able to recruit or acquire the units of other nations/factions."
Quite frankly I know exactly where he's coming from. Too many times so called "strategy" games are neutered to the point of the ridiculous in the name of balance. The inevitable result is that instead of having distinct, different sides with their own strengths and weaknesses, you end up with what is essentially "pick the colour of your troops". Rather than an actual strategy game, you end up with something akin to chess with all the fun taken out.
I'd rather have something with distinct sides than another game like that. If the price of that is a distinct strength which can be overpowering (though I wouldn't claim it was uber, besides which all nations also have their disadvantages) I'll happily pay it.
To be honest, I don't see a problem with it in multiplayer. If you think a nation is overpowered, then ban it from the game. Why rely on the developers to solve your problems for you?
