Re: Online Unit Reference
Well turning up in some other game for sale,... that they could fairly easily take legal action agaist I would think.
But as for other people using them for mods,.. I don't think that's too terrible. I mean I used graphics from a spiderweb game to make a mod for dom3. Since I'm not selling anything and it's not going to be played by millions of people I don't feel that's morally wrong, though I'm sure it's legally iffy.

Re: Online Unit Reference
If it gets announced here it gets removed. You should probably contact them as soon as possible and ask their permission.

Re: Online Unit Reference
I sent them (spiderweb) an email before and got no reply (it's possible but highly unlikely that the mail server here swallowed it). I can try again. To be honest I'd rather have the mod removed than have to pursue something like a formal physical letter containing express written consent. I mean it's not like it benefits me in any way to make it public, I just figured I'd share something with other people who enjoy the game.
Either way, I have no wish to break the forum rules.

Re: Online Unit Reference
im pretty sure spiderweb could careless if u use their sprites as long as you dont sell the mod and maybe say where you got the sprites from so if people like them they can go check out spiderwebs games.
p.s. The Avernum series is an awesome series of games.

Re: Online Unit Reference
This is a very old thread and that discussion about Spiderweb isn't current at all, so don't worry about it.

True enough. And it doesnt matter to us as players either. And posted someplace else it probably wouldnt come up at all.
But this is a forum which is hosted by a game company on the game companies server. Shrapnel cannot appear to other game companies to not be concerned about such things. Sometimes a company actually could care less about a player using their images but they might care quite abit that another game company seemed to make that answer for them.
If you publicly state here that you are taking from another game then you need to also state that how its been allowed. Not just something like "Im pretty sure they could care less". If thats true then it doesnt hurt to ask.
