Most people are forgeting that during Cold War, west armies were profesional and Easters block had all conscript with small exeptions. even famous "Desantniki" or Black Berrets were conscripted. They served longer (about 5 years) Intensity of training was enormous, but they stiil shouldnt have same amount of experience as west special forces, Airborne or some special British regiments like Ghurkas
Which professional armies? Apart from the US, most NATO countries had conscription armies well into the 90s, some still have. Now it's a matter of how much of the enlisted men are conscripts, and how they are trained.
The italian army was basically a conscript force for the entire Cold War and so were the germans (as previously noted), the swedes, the greeks and pretty much nearly everyone. The USA itself still relied on conscription to some extent till the early 70's.
There's a difference between having conscripts in an army and having a conscript army. The dutch for example did have conscription but about 60% of the soldiers were professionals.
