Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
I would say:
- Because she is good for clam hording.
- She can have 4 different magic pathes, thats perfect for Rings/Magic Robe
- Glamour
She isn't cheap but i would build up some of her!

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
Glamour and 3 magic paths and randoms?
Remember Vanherses are 160g, with 1 path and 1Holy.
She sounds closer to the Vandrott level (380g)
How much does she cost?

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
The Bean Sidhe for Eriu costs 220gp 1 res. Not bad for 4 paths.
Playing Eriu and I am now recruiting a Tuathu and as many Daoine Sidhe as I can per turn at my capital.

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
...
She's awful. You can get 3 paths at 1 each for ~100g. Why don't we compare her to the Oceania Mermage?
Mermage has WWN(AWEN), while she has AWN(AWEN). That's the same number of paths, almost exactly the _same_ paths, and the Mermage always has WW, with a 25% chance for WWW. With that, he can clam innately, unlike the Sidhe.
I'll also note in passing that the Master of the Five Elements has strictly superior magic, is _sacred_, and costs less.
So it can't be her magic that makes her cost so much. I can only assume that they're worried that she'll be used to thug with the paths available to her and her overall good stats. However, I find this not very likely considering her low HPs (for a thug) and lack of defensive abilities (glamour got nerfed).
If there's nothing 'hidden' on her, I can only assume she's supposed to be sacred and the #sacred tag was left off. That, or her cost really should be lower.

We shouldn't because Tir na n'Og does not have access to Mermages. Why? They have other units, better at other things that Oceania's is not. You see, low price on a good unit has its price.
What I'm saying is that you have to see the whole picture or you will find a lot of things "unbalanced".

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
Hmm. So what you're saying is that anything is justifiable if enough other things are bad?
We can only compare inside one nation?
This is patently ludicrous. I see no reason why we should not expect equal mages of equal abilities to have equal costs. That is the very definition of balance.
If you do not want that, then you want to play an unbalanced game.
I did not start this thread to 'snipe' at anyone. I was simply confused because by any standard, she is overpriced. (Again, note that an independent Enchantress is FAR superior to her at only a fraction of the cost more.) I was thinking that something was overlooked since she is, after all, part of a just-released patch.
That's it, I'm done. I will say no more before I say something that will get me banned from these forums.

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
Hey, don't take it like that.
Your are entitled to your opinion as much as anyone and I respect that. I was just criticizing you based on my own opinion in the matter. Sorry if I was too harsh or anything, not my intention.

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
Vedalken, your wrong, your very definition of balance is the very definition of generic.
That being said, I am not sure either way if she IS balanced, underpowered or overpowered yet. You may be right on your perception of the unit, but you really do have to take the entire nation into consideration.

Re: Question re: Bean Sidhe
Bean Sidhe are recruitable anywhere and they are far more versatile than the mermage, if you want a comparison.
Bean Sidhe can provide full site searching for Air, Water and Nature, they can forge a fair few combo items that are hard to come by elsewhere and ultimately build all water boosters, have glamour and exceptional stealth and forest movement. Further, depending on what randoms they get, they can function as battle mages. She also does not get power reduction like the mermage does on land.
Yes, the indie enchantress is far better. She is also only recruitable from sites you need to be lucky enough to find first and generally kicks almost any national mage's arse in a cost comparison analysis.
The whole goddamn point in comparisons is compare nations against each other as a whole, not just snip out some arbitrary unit and then compare those.
