spaceyards are what you use to build the starbases with the components on them. he is saying that since BASES cost half the maintanance that SHIPS cost, that instead of building 11 or 21 construction ships, you could build one construction ship and have it in turn build 11 or 21 construction BASES, which would then build the starbases with the components on them.
personally, i think thats nitpicking and is a silly idea since construction cruisers dont cost that much anyway, and the time you would spend building the bases would make it a moot point anyway. However, the thing about putting your construction queues on hold so all of the starbases with components on them get finished at the same time, is a good idea. that will save you from paying the maintnance on all those expensive components, and you wont have to lower their cost to make them buildable.
of course, RWs and SWs are sort of trophy items anyway, and i have only heard one or two stories from games where they had any benefit.

Re: Ringworld and Sphereworld Construction Questions
I just put all the queues on hold at the 1 turn left marker and complete them all, but if you have a minimal amount of resources storage (how you would have htat at this point in the game is beyond me) then you would have problems constructing them, but that is a different story.
Building bases is a waste of time. Now you have a ring/sphere with 21 construction yards, 21 immobile construction yards at that. No planet needs that much.
I could see 5 or maybe 10 but that is pushing it. With the mobile Version (that doesn't cost much more) you get flexibilty, the key to any military stradegy.
For all the hype, (alwyas questions on the Boards) that sphere and rings get they really arn't htat usefull. If you can build one the game has either gone on for (a) 300+ turns and no one has won and this is very elaborate, (b)or you have won the game already

Re: Ringworld and Sphereworld Construction Questions
i dont know man, 21 spaceyards could crank out a hell of alot of organic dreadnaughts. something on the order of five a turn, if you designed them with even-cost organics and minerals.
I always wanted to see if a single massively defended sphereworld could fight off all the other players in a large quadrant, but in 1.49 it generates errors if you try to start combat with too many units in play. and if you max out the cargo on your sphere, you definitly hit that 'too many units' level. somwhere about 100 weapons platforms or 1000 fighters if i remember right. does gold fix that bug?

You missed the whole point Puke. The generator takes a lot longer to build then the other components, so what you can do is, get a single construction ship to get the whole project going by building TWO spaceyard stations. Use the first one to build the generator and the second one to crank out more construction stations, and use the new stations built by the second station to crank out even more construction stations. You have plenty of time to build those stations while the generator is being built, and if your timing is right, all of your components should finish at exactly the same time.
By the time you finish the second station you can discharge your construction SHIP to do something else. In this way you don't have to waste your "operational" build queues to build construction ships, and if you use your ringworld as a naval base/hub like me then it starts off with enhanced repair/building capacity because of the stations already in place.

Re: Ringworld and Sphereworld Construction Questions
I'm in a PBW game, Dark Nova, and I'm about to complete the very first RingWorld in the Galaxy. This game has evolved into one of the most intense RPG games I've ever played. The creation of the RingWorld has become a galactic event with representives from nearly every player on hand to witness the event. It's quite the thing to see and in this case, it becomes a bit of a political move too.
