The range check error is a long existing problem and occurs whether or not you are using a moded scenario. It typically appears if you play SEIV shortly after booting up. When it occurs, it occurs with saved games or new games and SEIV is unplayable. The solution seems to be: If you use the PC for other purposes for a while and then launch SEIV, the error disappears. When it disappears, it disappears completely.
In an earilier post, someone guessed that it may be linked to the Windows temp file that is saved to the hard drive while you use your PC.

I have tried rebooting reinstalling and i still havent been able to get rid of this problem. I took controll of the race that i thought was causing it and I was able to get past many turns with no problem, but as soon as I turned the AI back on and ended my turn "Range Check Error" and the game was locked up.
