Re: \"Hardwired\" Country Atributes
Hmm, I know that the close relative to SPWW2, Steel Panthers World At War had hardcoded country attributes for the major countries. A few highlights I can recall out of the top of my head.
1. When attacking a Japanese infantry squad in the same hex, if the Japanese pass a check (morale?), you hear the "Banzai!!!!!" sound effect followed by your infantry squad most likely being shredded faster than the real Enron Balance sheet.
2. All marines are riflemen, so USMC infantry gains a to hit bonus.
3. US forces are likely to rout fast, but rally faster than normal. Fast is relative, because they are still very tough.
4. Italians are unwilling to fight outside their country. In north Africa, Italians will sometimes surrender even when not surrounded, or surrounded by inferior forces.
But after 1944, when fighting on Italian soil, they get a to hit bonues and some other bonus to reflect the marksmanship skills of partisans.
5. British are harder to rout, but when they rout they are not coming back (they have really cracked). They also get a bonus to avoiding suppression.
6. Germans have some very hard coded unfair advantages, but I have forgotten them all. This advantages seem to disappear after '44.
7.Russians gain a milder form of Banzai called going berserk which only occurs defensively(?).
For other countries, they have a bit more flavour units, like the Dare Death Squads of Natchi or the bamboo spear wielding Japanese militia.
I am pretty sure none of these are in SPww2. I enjoy flavour myself, but AFAIK WAW has no Natchi long campaign, so I have migrated to WW2. The engine differences were hard to get used to though.
