				 Lesser Horror bonus
In an SP game Pan and Man have gone nutso with temples, so to raze them I've been sending out a few Lesser Horrors a turn. Even solo Lesser Horrors do a pretty good job against the mid-level PD the AI is buying, and the occasional small army that happens to be in the province. They are successful about 80% of the time.
But about once every 4 casts, I get a fully-fledged horror who absolutely ravages the opposition. Nice! I'm boosting S2B1 units to S3B2 to cast, so no way I'm accidentally casting Send Horror.

Has anyone had an extra-special doom horror pop out of a Lesser Horror or Send Horror ritual? Or are vanilla Horrors the best that will appear?

Was astral corruption in play? It gives Horrors a chance of being upgraded, and you should get Doom Horrors occasionally on send/call Horror if it is. |

Yes it is. I did not know that, thanks! So that's why I've never seen it before, I don't bring AC up very often.
I'm eagerly awaiting Kurgi paying a visit to Pan's temples now .

				 Re: Lesser Horror bonus
Does anyone know the exact amount of horror marks it takes, assuming that horror mark is worth one unit of horror marking, for different types of horrors to be summoned? I must have put 30+ horror marks on a pretender one game, and he never got anything more than a regular horror. I was quite disappointed.

				 Re: Lesser Horror bonus
Horror marking comes in "levels". Ok, most people know that.
What they don't know is that only some effects have the capacity to increase a horror mark to the next level. The spell Horror Mark seems to either not increase a mark's severity, or it has a very low chance.

The Forbidden Light seems to increase Horror Marks quite quickly, though. I've never increased a Horror Mark past the point where each turn its "one Doom Horror, then a Horror, then another Horror", but it might get worse.

All horrormarks should be cumulative, IIRC. Items that give horrormarks will have their effect stack up over time. The same way with attacks that give horrormarks, if you get hit several times´it will get more severe. |

				 Re: Lesser Horror bonus
I've hit powerful units with like a dozen Horror Mark spells to no obvious effect, so I'd be grateful for a confirmation on the mechanics for me.
I've also noted how some items just don't give the bigger HMs that fast(Lightless Lanterns), but others make the big marks quite fast(Forbidden Light).

				 Re: Lesser Horror bonus
All horrormarks are cumulative, no matter from spells or items. The value of "horror mark" is stored in a single byte near your magic paths. You can check the memory address if you are interested. The value of "horror mark" keep increasing while you are carrying certain items or hitted by certain spells, etc. However at each time the amount it increases depends on every single hit/item. When the accumulative value goes higher, that commander are more attractive to powerful horrors... |

How do I look at the memory address? |
