I think the problem of "random genders" would be more in the sprite department

Unless all women of all peoples in Dominions are outstandingly buff and tall

EDIT: Also, if you thought that it's annoyingly difficult to tell a longdead velite from a longdead legionnaire, imagine telling the difference between two fullplated ulmish units
