Re: Worth moving on to SE5 from SE4?
I'm probably spending more time playing SEV than SEIV, but I don't see a strong reason to "move on" and play only one of them exclusively. (OTOH, most people don't have as much free time available as I do. I can afford to play both.)
One difference I do see between them is that in solo play, I can generally do more turns per gaming session in SEIV. I haven't gotten familiar enough with the SEV interface yet to smoothly do what I want to, which makes SEV more mentally fatiguing for me to play.
The first thing I did to customize the SEV interface was reassign some of the hotkeys back to the ones I'd memorized in SEIV.

Re: Worth moving on to SE5 from SE4?
go for it. I was in the same boat about 1 1/2 years ago. Should I play a well and established version like SEIV, or go for the gusto and buy SEV? At the time, the sticker price was $40. but when I actually went and bought it, the register rang up $20. I was relieved not to have to spend the extra $20, and I was really pleased and happy when I installed it. I haven't even thought about going back to SEIV, even if it means I can't play some of my favorite mods.

I would really like to hear some more solo player only comments about that - if they are still around that is.

There are frequently threads about that at the Strategy First SEV forums.

Re: Worth moving on to SE5 from SE4?
I'd say V is well worth buying, and I play exclusively solo as well.
I've yet to go back to play SEIV since I bought V, although I probably will do so at some point - just like I went back to play III after I spent 18 months playing IV.
The UI takes some getting used to, but having gone through the transistion from III to IV, I was prepared to grit my teeth and simply work through it.

I would say yes, both of the game have attributes that endear them to the player thus making both of them great a gaming value.

Re: Worth moving on to SE5 from SE4?
I have bought both se4 & se5 and I say get se5 now before it go's off the shelf like so many games do.
I play both still (with mods) the modders should know i bug them to UPDATE thier mods (hint hint)
I've been playing se4 WAAYYY back when it was ver 1.49 thats when i was hooked and i'm hooked on se5
I do have se3 somewhere on a cd but it's the demo ver 1.17
So yes get se5 now and learn the UI (bugs and all)
(but never give up on the old games, they are the one's we all learned from)
