Pretender stabbed to death?
My pretender got suddently a throwing dagger into his heart out of nowhere. I guess it was some kind of assassination attempt, but I thought assassinations result in a little combat with a few body guards. My pretender could easily beat an entire army on its own, so it's a bit odd to loose him by a thrown dagger.
How does it happen and what can I do to avoid it? And how can I do the same against an opponent?

That sounds a little like the seeking arrow spell. Can you give any more details?

Re: Pretender stabbed to death?
I simply got a message that my pretender was hit by a throwing dagger into his heart and died from it. That's all I know.

Re: Pretender stabbed to death?
I have trouble with the event being a seeking arrow spell. Seeking arrow doesn't do enough hit point damage to kill mages the vast majority of the time, and it sounds like his pretender has a lot of hit points.
The key question for Arkhan is "Did you get just a message or was there a battle screen available?"

Re: Pretender stabbed to death?
No battle screen! I had previous assassination attempts and once even got attacked by an huge undead army, but this time I just got a message.
My pretender was a full equipped Void Lord with 88 HP, but since he was deep in enemy dominion he had only about 30 HP left. But that's still more than a lot of other pretenders have.

Re: Pretender stabbed to death?
It could be that the enemy dominion lowered it even further the turn he died, in which case it could have been a Seeking Arrow. Seeking Arrow is an Enchantment spell that gives the following message, with variations depending on if the target evades the arrow or manages to survive the hit:
"Suddenly an arrow appeared out of the sky and struck Pazinah straight in the heart. She died instantly."
Did you get this message or something like this? If you did, you were really unlucky even in heavy enemy dominion, because Seeking Arrow only deals 8+random variation points of damage. It ignores armor, though, and causes a Chest Wound affliction.

Yes, that was the message! I also a got an affliction one round before which really surprised me. I guess he started spamming this spell on me each round. It probably wouldn't have happened in my dominion because I'd too much HP there, not to mention the regeneration.

Dom3 is filled with surprising occurances and lessons that come with a very dear price.

Hmm, was the message about a dagger or an arrow? If it was a dagger, it seems unlikely the spell is Seeking Arrow. Also, is it possible to cast the spell on a province more than once? This would seem a bit overpowered if you could say, have twenty mages spamming a province with Seeking Arrow on the same turn. And if you did cast it twenty times, wouldn't it generate twenty messages for the targeted player on the next turn?

Re: Pretender stabbed to death?
You can cast the spell on a province on the same turn as many times as you want. Each cast generates a message.
