Re: NEW file?
This .new file.. what was it numbered and what were the numbers on the PBEM CMT and DAT ?
One of the real problems dealing with reports about secure PBEM going bad is there is NO way for us to know for certain that everybody involved handled things exactly the way they are supposed to be handled.
It MAY have been a corrupt zip. This can happen. When you say the "redownloaded files still refuse to load" does that mean you asked him to re-zip his files and re-send or did you simply un-zip the old ones ?? If you did use re-sent files the second time did he rezip his files or just send you the same zip he sent the first time ?
It's all important information

Re: NEW file?
I am still waiting for his reply about the battle map, he is busy.
He sent the files again (but don't know if it was a new packaged or the same). BUT, what I did was use the original email sent by him (not the one after I asked him to send it again) and redownloaded the file, unzipped it, moved the 3 files in the PBEM directory to another one, and copied the 2 files contained in the zip file in the PBEM directory. Game worked.
The number for all files involved is 003, including the .new file.
I also asked him what he uses to zip files.
I use winrar 3.70, I already know he doesn't use winrar.

ok, he uses powerarchiver version 9.64.03 (2006 date as he told me)
Also, the map we play is autogenerated.

Re: NEW file?
You may also want to ask him if he has more than one copy of the game on his HD. We've had that happen in the past where the guy forgets which install of the game he's playing from and sends the wrong game files out. That might explain the .new file

Re: NEW file?
Just asked him, he says no.
I am trying to convince him to try winrar.

Re: NEW file?

if his zip produced these 3 files, that's likely to be an error at his end (somehow), since he should be sending you 2 (two) files (1 each CMT and DAT). That's if there were 3 files extracted by you from it before you tried running the game at your end.
Cheers

Re: NEW file?
I am pretty sure the extra file was produced after I loaded the game and tried to play.
Thankfuly it wasn't a show stopper and the battle continues (a bloody bloody battle)
