Re: What culture inspired Abysia ?
i always saw abysia as warcraft's blood elves: user of blood and fire magic, proud race disappearing in favor of humans, evil against the enemies.
but maybe abysia is older than blood elves....

Re: What culture inspired Abysia ?
This topic is silly. Abysia is just a ripoff of the demon splicing fire-people of Belarus.

Re: What culture inspired Abysia ?
So the developers just made up Abysia at the top of their head? No inspiration even from other games or books? Not a shred of reference?

Re: What culture inspired Abysia ?
What does it matter? So they came up with a race purely on their own instead of basing something on existing history or mythology.
Of course, Abysia does follow the usual theme of decline due to the corruption of humans.

Cinder from Killer Instinct.
In the arcade version he had a cheap as hell infinite combo glitch. Actually more than one I think.

You know, you COULD have read the rest of the Abysian description on page 97 of the manual. The quote I mentioned earlier continues "Malign devil-worshipping empires of the fantasy genre combined with some ancient Middle Eastern concepts, perhaps."
Really, it isn't that hard to look things up from the manual!

Re: What culture inspired Abysia ?
Maybe I just missed it somehow, but is there any other culture that uses the Burning Glyph as a Pretender God? I know it sounds silly, especially in a game where the goel is to BECOME a god, but it kinda bothers me that the one race that uses an Islamic/pseudo-Islamic symbol (I'm serious) are a bunch of demons.
OR WAS THIS INTENTIONAL, HRRRM?
