The Yavana captain eyed the arrow protruding from his neck and crashed to the grass with a surprised expression. The remaining demigods took to their heels as the rain of deadly missiles fell among them. One, diseased and hideous to look upon, fell down an embrasure and was lost to the howling defenders. Another took a lance between the shoulder blades, crippling him as he hurled himself onto a panicked horse. They were the only two survivors.
The prophet who had led them into the deadly lands of the Sauromatians took the dwindled elements of his archers and fled, leaving the Earth Yaksha behind to the tender mercies of their enemy. The Sauromatians began the cooking ritual that would do nothing to transfer Gayaprasada's power to their bellies and hearts, but would make him taste much more delicious all the same.
