ways of the AI
Basically I'm just playing short srimage games while I learn how to play. At some point I stop, when I realize I've made a horrible mistake or ten.
First thing that hit me with the AI is it doesn't want to share systems. It usually attacks on sight in a "contested" system. At first I completely overlooked planetary defenses, and many newly colonized worlds fell quickly to a single alien ship.
Weapons platforms have become a favorite for early game planet defense. They are availible right away in the tech tree and seem to provide the most firepower and variety.
The AI will destroy a planet I've colonized, or a ship, then say we should enter into a trade agreement, lol.
The race I use for now is a modified stock race.
Impulsive, Bloodthirsty, Schemers, Natural Merchants, Hardy Industrialists. 2K race development points. all atributes default average. Oxygen / Rock worlders.

Re: ways of the AI
You should probably consider making new threads for completely unrelated questions, to make it easier for everyone to keep track of them.

As a regular, I can say that wouldn't bother me much at all. Certainly better than the 2 new (on-topic) threads per month we've had at times...

That won't be a problem. The differences between v1.94 and v1.95 are small enough that many people didn't bother patching to the latter. Both of them are close enough to v1.91 that all three can be used in the same multiplayer game.

Do alot of you play each other instead of the AI?
What is the prefered method of human vs human?
|
A lot of people find that the AI offers so little challenge that they almost exclusively play multiplayer.
I myself tend to cycle between getting bored with dominating the AI and getting tired of being crushed by human opponents.
A lot of people use the Play-By-Web site ( http://seiv.pbw.cc ) to automate turn processing. PBW supports both SEIV and SEV (the URL predates SEV's release), and many mods.

Most of the regulars here will be glad to see that there still are newbies joining the community.
