Re: Can I sub for a teammate in the same game?
I think that llamabeast said it is impossible to get more than 1 turn working from the same cdkey. I guess it is the same for network games.

Too bad they didn't implement it like the protection in the ancient game Stars!--the system sent a machine signature along with the key in a turn file. The hosting program didn't care how many turns were submitted with the same key so long as the signatures were the same. Matching keys & non-matching signatures would trigger the protection, though.

Re: Can I sub for a teammate in the same game?
Yeah, the game actually stores both a registration number and a "compnbr" in the *.2h files. I wanted to quote somebody who told me that playing turns for different nations with the same machine was okay, but it turned out to be atul himself...

<atul> You can. The check prevention just happens if you play with two different machines with same Dom key code in it.

Which would explain why local games and hotseat games work the way they are done.

Re: Can I sub for a teammate in the same game?
Wait, so if I want to play a game against my roommate, we don't have to hotseat, we can run a network game with simultaneous turns even though I only own one copy of the game?? :O
Or are we dancing in circles so much on this that I'm losing track of where the yes's and no's are pointed?

You could always play two hotseat games on two computers.

That would mean different machine signatures. I would assume that would trigger the protection.

Does it mean then that me and my brother could both join an MP game and play it from the same computer with the same CD key?
