Another option which I believe will work is removing the magic site "arena" from the games via a MOD. I've never tested it, yet I believe this will prevent the death match arena event from appearing.

The improved champion trident is good for MP games, yet for SP games the weapon can harm the winning AI opponent.

** Ideally the overall prize for the death match should be improved based on the current game turn.
