autokilled after routing an ashen angel. bug?

Yes, I know fleeing an assassination means death. That's not the question.
Do they die (disappear with or without a little puff of blood) as soon as they fail the morale check and start to rout, as suggested earlier in the thread? Or do they rout, try to run off the screen and die because there's nowhere to go, which is what I'd always thought?

Though, going back to the Tomb Oracle, silly question: He didn't have flying did he?
