Why use a ghost general as a thug base instead of a bane, or better yet a bane lord?

I think Bane Lords are a bit of a paper tiger, and here's why.

1 They are not significantly more powerful than Banes for their cost.

2. You lose all your equipment anyway when you are defeated.

3. You tend to try to keep them in your own dominion, limiting their effectiveness as attackers.

1. Yes they are.
2. This is true of all SCs and thugs. Are all SCs and thugs paper tigers?
3. Do you? I don't. Why do you?

Cost (slightly lower), research (need conj4 instead of 5), stealth and base etherealness. If your oponent has very easy access to magic weapons (like F9 bless, or a basic troop with a magic weapon as default), that's worthless. If it's not, it is much better imho.

Banelords make for better "main battle thugs", the ghost general is a better raider imho

Wraith Lords are nice because

1.) They have ethereal built in,
2.) They can use Soul Vortex,
3.) Immortality heals afflictions even outside your dominion.

I don't know if that's worth the cost premium for them, but I still like them. Although right now I like Malkim better.
