You only need to patch once using the most recent patch.

Installing the patch itself is three steps. Move the application and patch to the desktop, run the patch command, then move the application back to wherever it was. It's very nonstandard for Macs, but it works smoothly. There are lots of Mac people reading these forums, so post any trouble your friend has.
