What I'm trying to imply is that DOS was based from UNIX. God only knows why the original DOS developer -- or maybe Microsoft -- made the switch from a slash to a backslash. =P
(Gates didn't make DOS; he bought it and then tweaked it.)

Gee, then I must be God , because I read somewhere that "\" was chosen because for some reason they'd decided to use "/" for command-line parameters, instead of "-"... of course, some DOS programs use "-" anyway
