I really like this idea.

Re: Fall Bears usefullness (mostly CBM)
I just took a look at the fall bears - gosh, they're terrible!
My fix would be:
Attacks -> Bite, Claws or even Bite, Claw, Claw
Prot -> 5
Bears are meant to be mean, mean creatures to fight. Giant ones like this more so. They should be able to deal out some serious hurt. One attack a turn definitely doesn't seem like enough.
Prot 5 would just give a little bit more staying power, and is consistent with have a decently thick hide.

Aren't they supposed to get better stats in fall? Or am I missing something...

That's the tricky part. +50% HP in Fall, normal HP in Summer and Winter, and..... I just discovered this recently (so embarrassing), -50% HP in Spring.

Re: Fall Bears usefullness (mostly CBM)
It's the same with the three other season themed animals, which is rather cool. I only wish there was more of this, as seasons don't have enough effect on the game in my eyes. Yes, there is the scale and event changes but there should also be changes to supplies (extreme in mountain terrain) etc. Then you REALLY would have to plan your army campaigns carefully, maybe putting them of over winter, waiting for spring and so on.
If season had more impact things like forest, mountain, waste survival would be much more valuable and interesting and summons like these a little bit more valuable.

While that much is true, it would not uniformly affect the game, due to terrain distribution. So while you are waiting for the passes to clear, your biggest rival is busy taking territory in leaps and bounds.

And wouldn't that be cool! You would have to find a way to force that obstacle; enter the fall bears. Just kidding. But anyway, this game isn't exactly the pinnacle of formality so I think it would just add depth.

Re: Fall Bears usefullness (mostly CBM)
Just a note, last CB version gave normal bears a second attack (so they have both a bite and claw), so regardless of other changes fall bears will be getting at least that.
I'm not really comfortable adding prot though, seems an Illwinter thematic kind of call. Stats like attack and defense I'd be more open to changing. Berserk is certainly off the table- just bizarre on a mindless being. I'm glad recuperation and regeneration were not popular picks, because they also strike me as significant thematic departure.
So, overall, other than adding the extra attack, the if I were to make more changes it would probably be to price.
