do we NEED to do this if we are not atlantis? or at least not right away?

No, it's not compolsory. Althought you might want to do it eventually. Since you are changing the mod on your computer, the changes will be only shown in your end.

I'm sure only HILARITY can result if two Atlantis nations team up on one guy who hasn't put the mod changes in for flags.
