I can just imagine what the regulars would think if some of the marines from the mule convoys started talking about their asinine companions.

A little off topic, but...

If you ever get a chance, read Kipling's "Servants of the Queen." It gives a wonderful fictional view of what the animals in the army might feel like. It's in the first Jungle Book, I believe. The mules way of making war is what I like to do.
