Ok, first of all I think you have to use the .gif. I don't think it will let you use .jpg for an avatar.

Click "my profile"
Click "View/update profile"
Click "select a different avatar image"
paste your link in the Use Custom URL window
For this avatar I used...

Edit: apparently you can use the .jpg, cause I see Gandalph got it to work. Hehe, looks like you are going to be the only one without that Avatar AZtrocities.
