The battle you watch is a replay using the same random seed used when the actual battle was calculated during hosting. Sometimes something goes wrong and the replay comes out differently.
It used to happen when the battle was watched on a different OS or version of the code than the host, but it's been happening rarely on the same machine.

OK, good, I thought there was something wrong with my game or a mod.
